The internet advertising programs generally provide two types of traffic networks: content network and search network.
An appropriately posted ad for a website in one of the large search engines can get massive exposure all across the internet, almost overnight.
However, these internet advertising programs can seem confusing and daunting to people who aren’t familiar with them. Horror stories abound about people who want to get traffic to their website, and end up spending large amounts on advertising without getting anything in return.
But if we know the optimal ways to use these programs, not only will our website get a lot of relevant traffic, we’ll also save on our advertising campaigns.
Internet Advertising Tip 1: Doing Good Keyword Research
Keywords are the lifeblood of internet commerce. The right keywords can make an advertising campaign successful, but the wrong ones can lead it to a failure. So it’s important to find the right ones quickly, and stop using the wrong ones.
We can use keyword tools, available through Google , Miva, Yahoo or any of the other services, to find keywords to bid on, but we’ll want to make sure our keywords are relevant to our website.
For instance, if our site is about energy resources, bidding on keywords about horses is probably not a good idea.
We need to find as many keywords as we can that are related to our market. The more keywords we have, the greater the chances of finding a winner.
Internet Advertising Tip 2: Writing Winning Ads
Having a good ad is just as important as having good keywords. With a bad ad, we won’t get any traffic, or worse yet, lots of traffic and no conversions.
The search engines have their own standards for the ads they display, so it can be challenging writing ads that meet their guidelines at first. An effective ad-writing tip is:
Create a headline that gets attention, and create body text that gives people a reason to click on your ad.
We can always write more than one ad and test out which one does the best.
Internet Advertising Tip 3: Setting a Reasonable Daily Budget
Setting a daily budget for our campaigns is what gives us a great amount of control over what we spend. If we do not want to Spend a lot of money. We should set our daily budget low – but not so low as to limit its usefulness.
While the amount of a daily limit is a direct function of the available resources, it should be large enough to give our ads enough time to display during the day without depleting our resources.
Internet Advertising Tip 4: Tracking Conversions
If we regularly track what keywords are converting, we’ll know which keywords to keep. The advertising programs offer conversion tracking, and it is vital to learn which keywords are working and which are not.
As we begin to eliminate keywords that aren’t converting, we’ll see that we’re optimizing our resources for successful campaigns. A keyword getting a large number of clicks without a conversion needs to be replaced.
Internet Advertising Tip 5: Separating the Search and Content Networks
Generally; content network traffic is much bigger than the search traffic. If we create a campaign in which our keywords are showing on both, we may be hitting our daily budget too quickly.
By separating the search and content network into two separate campaigns, we have a greater flexibility to not only manage the bids for our keywords on each respective network, but also control our daily ad expenses a lot more precisely.
For example, if we notice that the content network gets more clicks but fewer conversions, we can lower the daily budget to spend less. If we notice that the search network is resulting in lots of conversions, we can increase our daily budget to get more of that traffic. This will increase the proportion of relevant traffic to the website.
Thus, optimization of the various factors is necessary to make internet advertise a viable tool to get meaningful traffic to a website.
